NCBA: Bimedia launches Eprimectin Pour-On, latest addition to their solutions toolbox
Dr. Eric Moore explains how parasite imbalance affects herd health
Dr. Eric Moore, director of technical services at Bimeda, spoke with The Cattle Site’s Sarah Mikesell at NCBA’s CattleCon in Nashville, Tennessee, USA.
What’s new at Bimeda?
Bimeda is a family-owned company based out of Ireland that is 65 years old that is focused on food animal production, medications, dewormers, vaccines and secure cattle. We also have bovine appeasing pheromone products. It’s a company that is probably the best known - least heard about. We are an affordable, no-nonsense animal health solutions manufacturer that is trusted by producers worldwide. We are men and women who have been in the ag business a long time, and a lot of our employees are active in the cattle industry and cattle business.
It's a small family-owned company that's trying to make a splash. We cover all categories. If you have something wrong with a food production animal, we have solutions - antibiotics, dewormers, vaccines and stress relieving products.
What's the emerging cost of parasites on the farm?
When we talk outside New World screwworm, we still have to worry about internal parasites on our operations and in our cattle. When it comes to internal parasites, we often think about it causing irritation in the gut and weight loss, but there's another factor to it. It causes dysbiosis within the immune system or an imbalance.
The immune system reacts towards different types of things in different ways. There are a few different arms in the immune system, and the immune system that reacts to parasites is different from the one that reacts to viruses and some other diseases we have. They have to balance out, and when we have a heavy parasite load, we get a disbalance. Sometimes, not only do cattle lose weight and lose production, there’s also an increased chance of getting sick, so a good deworming program cleans them up and gives them a clean bill of health in more ways than one.
What new solutions does Bimeda offer?
We’re trying to bringing as many solutions to the producers as we can. The latest one we have is Eprimectin Pour-On, which is a generic bioequivalent of Eprinex, and it is a pour on dewormer that targets internal and external parasites. The key benefit is a zero meat withdrawal and zero milk withdrawal. So, you don't have to worry about the timeframe of treatment. It’s also rainfast, so weather isn’t a factor. That's just one of the three dewormers we have out right now that we launched in 2025.
Doracide is a generic bioequivalent of Dectomax Pour On, and our MoxiSolv Injection is a generic bioequivalent of Cydectin Injectable. So, we have three different products; each have their own characteristics that producers can work with their veterinarians to really see how they fit with their operation. 2025 was a busy year for us.
How should producers plan to utilize these products?
If you look at the whole holistic picture of controlling parasites in your herd, you really need to work with your herd veterinarian. Creating a plan has to do with your geography, because that's a big factor, along with the other management practices you have. Changes could be as simple as things that we can do from management to help lower the effect of parasitism, such as not grazing so low, because the larvae are on the lower part of the plant.
Combining all the strategies together based on your operation and working with your veterinarian with our toolbox of products to get the right rotation and right program set up is really the key to success. But it comes down to the team that you work with as a producer.
So, you really need to think about why and what you're doing and focus on doing what’s needed on your farm. Always look back and evaluate and measure to see where you can do better. Fine tuning is really what you need to utilize as an operation.
What is Bimeda’s commitment to the livestock industry?
We look at the space of animal health and everything we have. Bimeda is dedicated and focused on food animal health and equine - large animals and food animals. A lot of other companies are putting their research dollars into different aspects like cats, dogs and other companion animals.
As a company, we are focusing only on the food animal and equine space. With that, all our research dollars are going back to food animal and equine. It is a true commitment that I don't think we're seeing across the industry, but it’s where Bimedia wants to be.
Is there anything new coming for 2026?
There's always something coming. We never want to overpromise and underdeliver. We usually like to wait to have a good grasp on it. We'll let people know when they're coming.
If you look at the products and innovations out there, a lot of work is going into Bimeda biologicals, which is the vaccine side of the business and looking at what we can do to enhance protection in those gaps. Even though we're bringing dewormers and antibiotics, if we can get a dewormer and a good vaccine in them to start, they can respond better because we are controlling the parasite load. Then, we don't even need antibiotics. That's our goal – we're ramping up to help farmers be more preventive, so we can protect our animals.
