Blanket testing not an effective means of managing BSE

There has been some recent support expressed for the idea that 100-per-cent testing of all Canadian cattle at slaughter will be the silver bullet that would cure all that ails the beef and cattle industry and reopen international markets to Canadian products. Unfortunately, that is not the case. There are good reasons that testing of all animals is not recommended by the World Organization for Animal Health or by the majority of countries that have experienced bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE).
