State Launches Anti-parasite Treatment Ban
NICARAGUA – Injectable drugs with the active agents Ivermectin, Abamectin and Doramectin face usage restrictions because of links with human health risks.This follows a ministerial agreement signed by Ariel Bucardo, Minister for Agriculture. The agreement, running from April 2013 states that cattle are to receive injections of no more than 1 per cent concentration.
The legislation includes the involvement of a sanitary registry, manufacturing controls; and restrictions on imports and usage of the relevant animal health products.
All meat processing facilities must install laboratories where specified technicians are expected to carry out inspections. Processors are being given a 90 day ultimatum to enact this regulation.
If meat is detected to have illegal quantities of the above drugs then the government has stated that the meat is to be destroyed. The legislation states that the producers who will pay for this.
As well as safeguarding public health the limitations have come into force with a view to aid the country’s export potential.
