Producers from the Clermont district and beyond are invited to the workshop being presented as part of the FutureBeef initiative.

The workshop will be held at "Coovin", Diamond Downs Rd, Kilcummin, on Monday 5 November from 9am to 4pm.

"Bulls are very much the building block of beef businesses," DAFF Emerald-based extension officer, Laura Devlin, said."Having a good bull is a key to business sustainability - boosting herd numbers, providing quality progeny, and ultimately influencing what goes to market.

"On the other hand, a poorly-performing bull can put a breeding programme back a number of seasons. They are a significant investment and producers need to get bang for the bull buck."

Topics to be covered at the workshop include setting breeding objectives, estimated breeding values and how to use them, the latest Beef CRC findings, and practical bull selection and evaluation.

Presenters are well-known beef advisor John Bertram, and DAFF Roma-based extension officer Tim Emery.

Cost of the Bull Selection Field Day is $20 per person, which includes morning and afternoon smoko and lunch.

For more information, or to register, contact Laura Devlin at DAFF Emerald on 49 837419, or email [email protected]

FutureBeef is a joint initiative of DAFF, the Northern Territory and Western Australian Governments, and Meat and Livestock Australia.
