Initiated by the provincial administration early this year, the programme is part of a stimulus to improve the people's welfare, reports the TheJakartaPost.

According to the news organisation, West Nusa Tenggara Husbandry Agency head Abdul Samad said the procurement and distribution of the cows would be handed over directly to the respective farming communities in the province's eight regencies and two municipalities.

Funds for the procurement of 10,000 cows have been set aside from the provincial, state and respective regency and municipal budgets this year.

"If a cow costs Rp 5 million - US$450 - each, calculate how much they will all cost. The province has allocated Rp 10 billion for the programme," Samad told TheJakartaPost.
