What to do with Dead Cattle?

US - A federal rule designed to prevent mad cow disease is causing uncertainty about how to dispose of dead cattle and other livestock.

The regulation requires renderers and animal feed manufacturers to remove the brain and spinal cord from cows 30 months and older. The expense of doing that has forced out of business the last Missouri company willing to travel farm to farm picking up dead livestock.

That's left farmers with three main options for getting rid of dead livestock: burning, composting and burying. But for many, those options aren't as convenient as paying a company to pick up carcasses.
