According to a Livestock and Meat Commission (LMC) bulletin, imports from the EU have grown by two per cent due to a 17 per cent rise in imports from both Germany and the Netherlands.

Irish imports were unchanged. Imports from South America dropped by seven per cent to 36,300 tonnes as the 20 per cent increase in the volume of imports from Uruguay was outweighed by contracting supplies from Brazil and Argentina. Rising cattle prices in Brazil and the Government export restrictions in Argentina contributed to the fall.
