Indonesia, a major importer of Australian cattle, aims to reach self-sufficiency in beef by 2021, after several failed attempts to do so since 2004.

The ministry’s animal husbandry and health director general, I. Ketut Dirmita, said the extensive cattle breeding would rely totally on natural animal feed and exclude hormonal treatment.

“This is because the [Bali] cattle fall into the type of organic livestock,” he said Tuesday as quoted by kontan.co.id.
