"How we engage with the farming community to help them adopt change to the ever developing situation that is sustainability?" he said.

Add to that, the vastly different production systems that are used globally and the challenge is even more difficult.

Karl Williams, Operations Director at FAI Farms located in the UK, spoke to TheCattleSite's Sarah Mikesell on the McDonald's Campus in Oak Brook, Illinois, USA.

Williams noted that the Global Roundtable for Sustainable Beef is working with several national roundtables and platforms to develop sustainability programs.

"We are working with similar issues and challenges; the biggest concern is how do we impact change at the grass roots level. There's a lot of great work being done, but how to we convert that into real change at grass-roots level," he said.
