OIE Grant FMD Free Status

CHILE – A week after regions in Argentina were given ‘good animal health condition’ approval from the World Animal Health Organisation (OIE), the Coquimbo and Calingasta regions have also been given foot and mouth disease (FMD) clearance without having to carry out any vaccinations.

Applying to the summer grazing area of Calingasta, San Juan Province the health recognition extends the FMD vaccination free area from the Patagonia area.

Argentinian officials have submitted an animal health proposal to the OIE requesting that Argentina be viewed as a foot and mouth free zone.

Should this happen Chilean officials expect the Coquimbo and Calingasta regions to also make the FMD free list which will have implications for the free movement of cattle in and out of the regions.
