State and Regional Ministers Ratify 400 million peso TB Plan

CHILE – Tuberculosis eradication efforts are being stepped up in Los Lagos by the Secretary of Agriculture, Alvaro Cruzat.

As part of a national animal health plan to control and eradicate bovine tuberculosis a programme has been officially launched called "Improving the Safety of Livestock Production in the Region of Los Lagos” in town of Remehue.

The scheme was will be funded by 400 million pesos of state money. The scheme was ratified by the Regional Governor, James Brahm, the Provincial Governor, Rodrigo Kauak, the Seremi of Agriculture, Rodrigo Mardones, and the region’s farmers Training programmes, lectures, public broadcasts, improvements in diagnosis and improvements in slaughterhouse surveillance have been scheduled as part of the strategy.

It hoped that farmers will benefit from the scheme and the country’s cattle industry can thrive. Secretary of Agriculture, Alvaro Cruzat said: "Through this program we are directly attacking a problem that directly affects many local producers.”

“The measures taken are to avoid risky situations in the future regarding the safety of the natinon’s herd,” added Mr Cruzat.

Currently there are 1553 animals with tuberculosis in the district. Over 100 farms are to be quarantined as part of the programme.
