Cargill to idle Colorado beef plant for 10 days
Shutdown comes as US beef prices near record highs
US agribusiness Cargill Inc's Fort Morgan, Colorado, beef processing plant will be down for 10 days beginning on Friday for maintenance to its refrigeration system, Reuters reported, citing the company on Thursday.
Cargill said its other beef processing facilities were operating normally and that the company would work with its cattle producers to shift livestock to other beef plants.
In June, Cargill announced that it was investing $90 million in automation and new technologies at the facility.
The downtime comes as US beef prices are hovering near record highs and as the nation's cattle herd is at its lowest level in decades.
