Brazilian milk prices rise for fourth straight month in April
Output slump, processor competition push farmgate price
The price paid to Brazilian milk producers rose for the fourth consecutive month in April, according to Cepea, with the net Brazil Average closing at BRL 2.6584/litre (USD 0.48/litre), up 10.4% from March. Despite the gain, the price remained 7.1% below April 2025 levels in real terms, deflated by the IPCA through April 2026.
The increase was driven by lower milk production and stronger competition among dairy processors for raw milk. The Cepea Milk Production Index fell 3.4% from March to April and 14.6% compared with April last year. Reduced investments have also constrained supply, while the Effective Operational Cost rose 1.1% in April.
Tighter supply and leaner inventories pushed dairy product prices higher in São Paulo's wholesale market. UHT milk prices climbed 20.17% from March to April, while mozzarella cheese quotations rose 12.65% over the same period, according to OCB data.
Imports fell 10% in April to 218.38 million litres of milk equivalent, though they remained 34.1% above the same month last year.
