Brazil ships first beef batch to Vietnam
27 tonnes mark start of new meat trade partnershipEarlier this month, the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro, held a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Phạm Minh Chính, at Copacabana Fort in Rio de Janeiro. The meeting took place on the eve of the BRICS heads of state summit.
During the meeting, President Lula signed a symbolic box representing the first batch of Brazilian beef exported to Vietnam, according to a press release from the government. The market was opened in March during an official mission to the Asian country, following meetings with Vietnam’s top political leaders.
The box was also signed by the Prime Minister of Vietnam and Minister Fávaro.
"This is a concrete achievement, a direct result of previous meetings and the strengthening of the relationship between Brazil and Vietnam. The opening of the Vietnamese market to Brazilian beef, along with the exchange of Vietnamese fish and rice, shows that when there is commitment between countries, results follow. We will continue working to expand this strategic partnership and generate more opportunities for our producers," said Fávaro.
The Prime Minister of Vietnam highlighted the progress in the partnership: "This is a very significant achievement, a direct result of the previous meetings between our countries. I thank the minister and his team for dedicating themselves intensely to the promotion of agricultural cooperation between Vietnam and Brazil. I am happy to see that, with each new meeting, we can move forward with more products and concrete results."
Minister Fávaro also congratulated Vietnam on its recent accession to the BRICS group as a partner country and underscored the potential for expanded trade between the two nations.
This first batch of Brazilian beef destined for Vietnam consists of 27 tonnes of the duck cut. The shipment will depart for Vietnam from the Port of Santos, in São Paulo.
