Offal exports to Japan increase after US beef ban

The mad cow outbreak in the US has created new opportunities for one of Australia's more specialised export markets. Australian offal exports to Japan jumped 76 per cent in the 12 months to May, according to figures from Meat and Livestock Australia. Industry analysts say the meat is filling shelves left empty by Japan's continuing ban on US beef and offal, after a single case of BSE was detected late last year.
