CFIA Efforts for Release of SFCR Commended
CANADA - The Canadian Meat Council (CMC) congratulates and applauds the efforts of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) on the historic publication of the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR)."We have a long-standing relationship with CFIA and these regulations are an essential building block of a risk-based, modern food safety system that is long overdue," said CMC President and CEO, Chris White.
"The meat industry is one of the most heavily regulated sectors in Canada, and we look forward to keep working with CFIA as the regulations are implemented over the coming months," Mr White said.
Now that the regulations are published, the hard work of implementation begins, and testing of the tools and applications that have been created to be easy to use by the food industry.
"We see this as a great opportunity for CFIA and the meat industry to keep working together to ensure consistency of inspection and enforcement across Canada," said Chris Nash, Director of Regulatory Affairs at CMC.
"The outcome-based regulations will allow a greater degree of flexibility and innovation that could build efficiencies in the industry," he said.
CMC will continue to work with the CFIA as a partner in providing safe, high-quality, and nutritious meat to Canadians and the rest of the world.
