FrieslandCampina Helps Empower Female Dairy Farmers
NETHERLANDS - Women play an important role in agriculture, including dairy farming. At many dairy farms, women are responsible for important tasks in and around the house and shed, such as feeding, rearing young stock, milking, cleaning and/or bookkeeping.Yet, typically in many developing countries, women achieve yields that are 20-30 per cent lower than those of men because of a lack of access to e.g. productive resources and services.
Within its Dairy Development Programme, FrieslandCampina and partners organise targeted training for female dairy farmers and extension workers in Pakistan and Nigeria.
In 2017 alone, they trained 5,993 women in technical, entrepreneurial and leadership skills.
By bridging the gender gap, we economically and socially empower women (Sustainable Development Goals 5 and 8) and at the same time boost food and nutrition security (Sustainable Development Goal 2).
The Dairy Development Programme is a fine example of how FrieslandCampina puts its purpose nourishing by nature into practice.
