Ukraine Sees Decline in Cattle, Pig Numbers

UKRAINE - The number of cattle in Ukraine as of 1 February 2018 numbered 3.58 million head, which is 4.5 per cent down year-over-year (y-o-y).

In particular, the number of cows was 2.02 million head, which was 3.8 per cent down against the figure as of 1 February 2017, according to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.

The number of pigs as of 1 February 2018 decreased by 8.2 per cent, to 5.9 million, while the number of sheep and goats was 5 per cent down, to 1.29 million head.

However, the poultry population increased by 2.5 per cent, to 199.9 million birds. The State Statistics Service said the data excluded reports from temporarily occupied areas in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the city of Sevastopol, and Donbas.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the number of cattle in Ukraine as of 1 February 2017 numbered 3.63 million head, which was 1.5 per cent down y-o-y.

In particular, the population of cows was reduced by 2.1 per cent, to 2.06 million head.
