Kalambo Flushes Out 25 Pastoralists, 2,000 Herds of Cattle
TANZANIA - Kalambo District authorities in Rukwa Region have arrested and forcibly kicked out 25 pastoralists with 2,000 herds of cattle over the defiance of a directive issued by Regional Commissioner (RC), Mr Zelothe Steven, against illegal animal entry into the district.

Similarly, the district authorities confined for several hours, the chairman and executive officer from Kisaila Village, Samazi Ward, along the shores of Lake Tanganyika for allegedly allowing animals to enter the area illegally.
Such revelation was made by the Kalambo District Commissioner (DC), Ms Julieth Binyura, when addressing public rallies at Mwimbi and Mwambwekenya villages where land conflicts have recently become alarming, claiming the lives of two pastoralists.
According to the DC, the arrested pastoralists and their animals were forcibly returned to Lake Rukwa Basin in Sumbawanga District.
Ms Binyura ordered villagers in the district to desist from arbitrarily selling their farmlands to pastoralists without the approval from relevant authorities in efforts to permanently address land dispute between farmers and pastoralists. She insisted that the district has no sufficient land to accommodate more herds of cattle from outside the district.
