Overall beef Australian beef shipments fell 27 per cent during the first six months of the year but the amount of chilled grass-fed beef rose.

Export volumes are down because of US competition and strong demand for Australian beef elsewhere, according to Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA).

MLA stated the five most popular cuts in Taiwan from Australia are manufacturing, shin/shank, blade, carcase and intercostals.

Explaining a negative outlook for future Taiwanese demand, an MLA analyst said: “Looking ahead, recent economic data suggests a slowdown in economic growth in Taiwan from the second half of 2015 which will likely be accompanied by a drop in consumer confidence and slower retail sales growth in 2016 (IMA). This may have a negative impact on overall demand for imported beef.”
