Increased competitiveness is a long term must for a sustainable industry, says the Federation of Swedish Farmers (LRF).

However, at a policy meeting with rural ministers, the “political connections” the dairy price crash has were foregrounded, largely the Russian import ban.

The LRF called for “political initiative” and “quick decisions”, adding that many companies were “exhausted” and not fully recovered from the previous price crisis.

Among the list of farmer action points were: stronger brands; dialogue with lenders; transparent feed prices and sector policies.
