Stronger results from whole milk powder, butter, anhydrous milk fat and a 4.3 per cent lift in sweet whey powder led to the first gains since a 0.9 per cent lift in June.

Skimmed milk powder and butter milk powder slipped over 3 per cent with rennet casein settling 5.3 per cent lower.

The current index is at its second lowest point since August 2009.

The result follows an unchanged result in mid-September and a 7.3 per cent drop at the start of October.
