Better Not Rush Trans-Pacific Beef Trade Deal
GLOBAL – Concluding the Trans-Pacific Partnership between world beef’s big five remains a priority, although will not happen soon, a Beef and Lamb New Zealand executive has said.

Dr Scott Champion, chief executive, highlighted the group’s focus as improved trading conditions and elimination of tariffs between Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Mexico and the US.
Together, the alliance accounts for half of world beef exports and, through the TPP has, “put forward a coherent and united view.”
“We are a much stronger force together than we would be as individual organisations,” said Dr Champion.
“That includes the weight that we add to US beef farmers' lobbying efforts with US lawmakers on the Hill in Washington."
He added that he is seeking a good deal, not a necessarily a quick one.
"You only get one shot at a big regional free trade agreement like this one and we'd rather the focus stayed on the best deal for New Zealand beef farmers than on rushing it through."
