Chinese Food Prices Rise

CHINA - The prices of farm produce in China rose slightly in the last week of August, according to a survey of prices in 36 large and medium sized cities by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.

The prices of poultry and eggs continued rising, with the price of eggs up 1.8 per cent and chicken up 1.6 per cent.

The average wholesale price of 18 vegetables was up 0.6 per cent week on week, among which the prices of lettuce, eggplant and green bean up 8.6 per cent, 6.3 per cent and 3.2 per cent respectively.

The prices of meat saw rises and falls, with the prices of pork up 0.4 per cent, and the price of beef and mutton both down 0.7 per cent.

Prices of rice and flour remained unchanged compared with the previous week.

The price of edible oil fell slightly, with the prices of soybean oil and rape seed oil down 0.6 per cent and 0.4 per cent respectively, while the price of peanut oil remained the same.

The average price of aquatic products fell 0.5 per cent, with the prices of small hairtail, crucian and grass carp down respectively 2 per cent, 1.5 per cent and 0.9 per cent week on week.
