FMD Outbreaks Across Tunisia Affect Cattle

TUNISIA - The Tunisian veterinary authorities have reported thirty outbreaks of foot and mouth disease across various livestock farms located in Ariana, Bizerte, Tunis, Gafsa, Nabeul, Sidi Bouzid, Ben Arous, Mannouba, Sfax, Tataouine, Mahdia, Kasserine, Monastir, Beja and Le Kef.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 5 on Thursday, 12 June. According to the report, the affected population comprises cattle, sheep and goats.

A total of 410 cattle were found susceptible, out of which 93 cases were reported. However, no deaths were recorded. Three animals were taken to slaughter.

Illegal movement of animals has been identified as the main cause of the outbreaks.
