The Milk Market Observatory was launched at 4pm on Tuesday 16 April with the aim of easing the dairy sector into a post-quota environment after 31 March next year.

Through accurate market data and greater transparency, the observatory will allow supply chain stakeholders to take ‘well-informed business decisions’ and to assist the Commission in policy direction.

European Commissioner Dacian Ciolos said: “The Observatory's true added value will lie in the constructive assessment of different market analyses. It will be a crucial tool for decision-making by the Commission and Member States."

He added that a ‘wealth of data’ will be housed on an online interface.

Regular reports will be produced by the Monitoring Committee's Economic Board and will be publically available.
