Awards for Agricultural Science Innovations
UK - A potato modelling system and an eBolus for cattle won top honours in the Practice with Science award at the Oxford Farming Conference.The main Oxford Farming Conference and Royal Agricultural Society of England award sponsored by AB Agri was won by David Firman and his team of Marc Allison and Mark Stalham from the NIAB Cambridge University Farm.
The £10,000 award went to a potato modelling system which forecasts yield, tuber size and water usage.
The tool is supplies data to the entire supply chain.
The runner up was an eBolus for cattle developed by Tony Mottram and Seonaid Nimmo from E-Cow.
The eBolus is used to monitor rumen pH and temperature and works wirelessly to alert herd managers of any alterations in the rumen environment, acidiosis and issues like mycotoxin levels in maize silage.
The award if funded by the Oxford Farming Conference and RASE.
