The farmer owned cooperative will construct a new effluent treatment plant and install natural gas powered boilers, replacing oil units, which is expected to drop emission by 3,500 tonnes.

First Milk has said the new technology will have the equivalent environmental impact of taking 2,000 cars off the road.

The funding announcement follows a previous £9 million worth of investment at the Creamery in recent years.
