Industry levy board, DairyNZ, has advised that a farm roster should be put in place to counter the challenge of catering for holiday requirements.

“Relief milkers and casual employees can provide an excellent solution - especially if the right people are chosen,” said Jane Muir, people team leader at DairyNZ.

Children should also be considered as Christmas often means more family and children on farm, added Mrs Muir.

By addressing hazards and placing safeguards to keep children safe.

Mrs Muir said: “Sit down with employees and agree on some ground rules. No one wants to see a child hurt and a common-sense approach is the best way to manage the situation.”
