Government Steps in To Address Cattle Prices
NICARAGUA – Livestock price tensions should soon be resolved following a tripartite agreement between farmers, governments and the meat industry, says the agricultural minister. An initial meeting with government mediators has proposed a permanent commission to review slaughter prices at abattoir delivery.
Ariel Bucardo, the Head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and Economic Minister, Peter Haslam has met with leaders from Farmers Unions.
"What is important is the willingness to sit down and talk to find consensus and continue working with confidence," Mr Bucardo.
“The most important thing is reaching an agreement to sort out the price of livestock,” said Salvador Castillo, president of the Federation of Nicaraguan Livestock.
Intentions are not to ‘impose cattle prices’, he added. Instead, stability and balance is hoped to be brought to the supply chain.
