Another FMD Outbreak Affects Russian Cattle
RUSSIA - The Russian veterinary authorities have reported yet another outbreak of foot and mouth disease in Tambovskiy District affecting more cattle.The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 14 on 30 September.
Antigen (Ag) detection ELISA and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests were carried out on 29 September, confirming the presence of the FMD virus, serotype A.
According to the report, a total of 432 animals were found susceptible, out of which 21 cases were found. No deaths were recorded, and no animals were destroyed.
According to the OIE, the outbreak is in the buffer zone. The outbreak is near the state border of Russia and China.
The source of the outbreaks has not yet been determined.
