County Down Farmers Urged to Take Badger Sett Survey
UK, NORTHERN IRELAND – Farmers in Northern Ireland are being reminded to take part in the ‘test and vaccinate or remove’ (TVR) sett survey to gauge badger populations. Some 75 per cent of the Banbridge/Rathfriland area and 61 per cent of Castlewellan area were surveyed before the summer growth made work difficult.
The survey is part of intervention research that has seen landowners and farmers calculating badger presence as part of precautionary studies into the tuberculosis wildlife reservoir.
Agricultural Minister Michelle O’Neill said that letters are being sent out to farmers who have not been involved with the survey.
