The scheme falls under the policy banner of ‘One World, One Health’ and is in response to growing concerns over zoonotic disease and the rising risk of trans-boundary epidemics.

The bilateral initiative has been welcomed as a success and demonstrates growing cooperation between China and Mongolia since efforts were boosted by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Animal Health Cooperation in November 2011.

Earlier this month, livestock specialists and veterinary surgeons met in Xinlinhot, Inner Mongolia to perform a practice ‘drill’ to gauge national preparedness for an outbreak.

The scenario consisted of an outbreak in a sheep flock, notified by a veterinarian on routine inspection.

Farm culling, disinfection, vaccination and public security and supervision measures were evaluated to analyse optimum management measures to minimise disease impact.
