OIE Reports FMD Outbreak in Russia
RUSSIA - The Russian veterinary authorities have reported an outbreak of foot and mouth disease in Krasnokamensky District, affecting cattle, swine and sheep.The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 12 on Monday, 23 September. The causal agent has been found to be the FMD virus, serotype A.
A total of 1403 cattle were found to be susceptible, out of which 84 cases were reported. No deaths were recorded, and no animals were destroyed.
In the case of pigs, out of 902 susceptible animals, no cases were found. Also, no animals were found dead, and none were destroyed.
According to the OIE report, the epidemiological investigation is currently under way. An FMD outbreak has been reported in the area situated 8 kilometers from China-Russia border.
The source of the outbreak(s) remains inconclusive.
