The UK’s only major farmer owned dairy company has confirmed that this means an aggregate price rise of 3.5 pence per litre since April for the manufacturing pool.

This coincides with a 2.7 pence per litre increase for the same period for farmers supplying the liquid pool.

First Milk chairman Bill Mustoe said the price lift is attributable to new efforts made in the added-value market with additions to the range such as Quark and Frumoo and promotional efforts with the Lake District Cheese.

"The work we are doing on the Lake District Dairy Company brand shows that we are hunting down every opportunity to drive returns for members. We’ve seen the launch of Quark and Frumoo over the last few months."

The chairman added that expansion plans extend beyond the UK.

"Our international expansion plans are driven by a dedicated export team here in the UK and in Asia. The team now regularly host visitors from around the world, with guests from India with us last week.”
