DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – A skills push is hitting the dairy and beef sectors in a bid to introduce producers and technicians to new ways of improving the industry.

Government funded courses will train thousands interested in learning more about animal disease control, improving genetics, managing self-sufficiency and increasing exports.
The initiative is vital for the country as a whole, explained Bolivar Toribio, director general of livestock for the Ministry.
He said that dairy farming equates to 50 per cent of agricultural earnings.
The scheme is to include 20 training courses, 13 workshops, efforts to improve sanitary standards at 154 municipal slaughterhouses.
A key aim of the project is to eliminate any consumer concerns over meat quality.
