Fonterra Complete $500 Million Development of Darfield Site
NEW ZEALAND - The first production run of the world’s largest milk powder drier, Trier Two, is the completion of a three year project of investments in Fonterra’s Darfield site.To deliver this improved milk processing facility at the Darfield site, involved more than 1500 staff and contractors worked more than 700,000 man hours.
Drier Two is designed to produce more than 700 metric tonnes of milk powder each day, with the ability to run 24 hours a day, seven days a week explained Mr Robert Spurway, Fonterra’s Director Logistics Network.
The batches of milk powder - packed into 25kg bags - are destined to be exported to more than 20 markets worldwide including the Middle East, China and Southeast Asia.
“The demand for dairy nutrition around the world, especially for whole milk powder, is still strong.
"Drier Two will ensure that Fonterra has the capacity to meet this demand and to process on-going milk growth in Canterbury, the fastest growing dairy region in New Zealand.
Mr Spurway concluded, “The new drier play an important role in Fonterra’s strategy to optimise its New Zealand milk business.”
