Animal Husbandry Bases Expand in Sanmenxia
CHINA - Two animal-farm industrialization bases have been certified by the Department of Agriculture of Henan province as provincial-level agricultural industrial clusters, providing a boost to the development of Sanmenxia's animal husbandry sector.The two bases are the Xinda pig-breeding cluster in Yima city and the Shangzheng cattle industrial base in Mianchi county. Their certification marks a transition in animal husbandry from the traditional scattered breeding method to the industrialized and intensive breeding model in the city of Sanmenxia.
In recent years, the city has promoted industrial clustering construction for animal husbandry through policies, technical services and the fostering of leading enterprises. At present, several leading animal husbandry enterprises have been set up in the city, including Shangzheng Food, Tianshun in Sanmenxia, Yixin in Yima and Chengyuan in Lushi county.
The planned investment for key animal husbandry projects is 5.5 billion yuan ($898 million). So far, 1.63 billion yuan has already been invested in these projects.
The industrialized animal husbandry bases have various projects, including a pig farm with 1 million pigs from True In Group, a pig slaughter center with a capacity of 2 million pigs from Yurun Group of Jiangsu province, and a cow farm with 10,000 cows.
In 2012, sales revenue of the industrialized bases of animal husbandry reached 5.58 billion yuan ($912 million). The sector created 6,200 jobs for local farmers and greatly promoted the development of the rural economy. The bases cover animal breeding, feed processing, catering chains, organic fertilizer production and agricultural circular economy.
The industrialized bases of animal husbandry and the key projects form favorable conditions for the upgrade and industrialization of the sector in Sanmenxia.
