Export Laws Must be Simplified to Build US Trade
ITALY – Italian processors have called on the European Union to simplify trading so exports to the US cheese market can be developed. The Commission has been urged to consider free access for agricultural products, a review of sanitary and phytosanitary measures and an overall simplification of the ‘quirks and bureaucracy’ of non-tariff barriers.
The Italian Association of Milk and Dairy has voiced interest in expanding on the 30,000 tonnes of cheese the US bought from Italy in 2012, making it the Italian’s third biggest buyer.
