Japanese lawmakers to check US efforts on BSE

JAPAN - A House of Representatives panel will send a fact-finding mission to the United States on a weeklong trip from June 20 to check the effectiveness of U.S. steps to shield its cattle industry from mad cow disease, panel officials said Thursday. The delegation of six lawmakers from the lower house's Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries will inspect meat-processing plants and animal feed facilities in some Midwestern states after meeting in Washington with U.S. government and beef industry officials.
