MLA: Tuesday Trade Sees Prices Lift at Toowoomba
AUSTRALIA - Small losses were reported at yesterday's close although Toowoomba saw cattle trade dearer. Heavy cows led the increase at 15 cents higher.There was a large increase in consignments at Toowoomba this week, with young cattle in the greatest numbers and a full panel of buyers present, write market analysts at Meat and Livestock Australia.
Light C2 yearling steers returned to the paddock 1¢ dearer on 186¢, while the equivalent heifer portion averaged 147¢/kg, say MLA experts.
The C4 bullocks sold between 163¢ and 184¢ to processor orders, up 9¢, and heavy D4 cows to slaughter were 15¢ higher, to average 135¢/kg.
Throughput at Tamworth was 13 per cent higher week-on-week, with quality still mixed and prime conditioned young cattle in limited supply. Medium C2 vealer heifers to restock eased 16¢ on 146¢, and medium C2 yearling steers were 2¢ cheaper, to average 183¢/kg. Light C2 yearling heifers returned to the paddock 9¢ lower on 148¢, and medium D2 cows to slaughter sold from 102¢ to 128¢, to be 2¢/kg cheaper.
Numbers at Wagga lifted 24 per cent from last week, with a mixed selection of secondary yearling steers and heifers, while grown steers were in greater numbers. Heavy C2 yearling steers to feed lost 4¢ on 189¢, while heavy C3 yearling heifers were 5¢ lower, to average 180¢/kg. Heavy C3 grown steers to processor orders increased 5¢ on 195¢, and heavy D4 cows to slaughter averaged 156¢, to be 1¢/kg lower.
At the close of Monday’s markets the Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) eased 1.25¢, to average 320.25¢/kg cwt. Trade steers were 1¢ lower on 188¢, while medium steers lost 3¢, to average 175¢/kg. Feeder steers averaged 179¢, down 3¢, while heavy steers remained unchanged on 181¢/kg. Medium cows were 1¢ lower, to average 130¢/kg.
