8.9 Billion Dollars to Go into Mexican Tuberculosis Battle
MEXICO – Authorities have announced an 8.9 million dollar allocation to support work in combatting bovine tuberculosis in the Baja California Sur region.

State intentions are to verify the region for 0.5 per cent TB prevalence, technically termed ‘accredited’ status for tuberculosis in November. This will open the export market to the US for calves at foot.
Investment will go into improving livestock traceability systems, including a certainty in origin certification to add to work already undertaken by the National Livestock Individual Identification.
The USDA has listed regions at risk and ordered them in order of severity. Mexico currently has 25 regions under ‘low prevalence recognition’.
The National Health Service for Food Safety and Quality will oversee the spending.
