First Milk Announces Former Agricultural Minister as Chairman

UK – Former Agriculture and Food Minister, Sir Jim Paice MP has been elected as chairman of farmer co-operative First Milk.

He replaces current chairman Bill Mustoe as part of a reshuffle at the cooperative, which has also appointed three new farm directors, which are to be officially approved at the company’s Annual General Meeting on October 31.

Sir Jim Paice,MP for south-east Cambridgshire since 1987, said he felt privileged to be considered for the role and that he is a firm advocate of farmers cooperating to reach to fulfill their goals.

“Having worked for a farmer owned business before I became an MP, and from being Minister, I have always believed that farmers should work together to influence their own destiny.

“The dairy sector has gone through difficult times recently but I have long believed there is a good future for British dairy farmers and I look forward to helping to achieve it," said Sir Jim Paice.

Mr Mustoe supported the decision saying Mr Paice has a deep understanding and empathy for farming, hugely important for First Milk’s farmer members.

Furthermore, he said Mr Paice’s experience at Minister of State for Agriculture and Food means he brings considerable knowledge and experience of domestic and foreign markets.

First Milk chairman Bill Mustoe commented: “We are delighted to have recruited Jim and I am convinced that he will bring valuable skills to First Milk.

“From our meetings with him, he has demonstrated a detailed understanding of the dairy sector, very strong communication skills and a considerable network of contacts.”
