Russia Reports More FMD in Cattle
RUSSIA - The Russian veterinary authorities have reported a further outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in Amurskaya oblast, affecting cattle and sheep.The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 6 on Monday, 12 August. The presence of the FMD virus, serotype A, was confirmed after complement fixation test (CFT) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests were carried out at the FGBI "Federal Centre for Animal Health", the OIE's reference laboratory.
A total of 369 cattle were found affected, out of which 163 cases were reported. No deaths were recorded, and no animals were destroyed.
According to the OIE, the outbreak is in the buffer zone. The outbreak is near the state border of Russia and China.
The source of the ourtbreak(s) remains unknown.
