Australian Cattle Markets See Higher Numbers, Tuesdays
AUSTRALIA - Throughput surged at major markets yesterday with throughput at Wagga increasing over a third, according to Meat and Livestock Australia.Consignments lifted at Toowoomba this week, with all categories represented and restocker buyers displaying more interest, write market analysts at Meat and Livestock Australia.
Medium weight C3 yearling steers to feed gained 15¢, selling between 160¢ and 184¢, while the medium C3 yearling heifers to slaughter lost 8¢, ranging from 140¢ to 188¢/kg. Heavy C4 grown steers were 3¢ lower to processor orders, averaging 163¢/kg.
Numbers at Tamworth were slightly higher, up 11 per cent week-on-week, with the condition of the offering more suited to restocker and feeder orders. Light C2 yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 189¢, up 12¢, while the equivalent heifer portion sold from 140¢ to 167¢, to be 2¢/kg cheaper.
Light C3 grown heifers to restock ranged between 165¢ and 169¢, and medium D2 beef grades averaged 106¢, up 2¢/kg.
Throughput at Wagga increased 36 per cent on last week, with good numbers of feeder steers, yet grown steers and bullocks were in limited supply.
Medium C2 yearling steers were 2¢ dearer on 193¢ to feeder orders, and heavy C3 yearling heifers to slaughter lifted 2¢, averaging 183¢/kg. Heavy C3 grown steers to process increased 1¢ on 191¢, while heavy D4 cows to slaughter remained unchanged on 151¢/kg.
At the close of Monday’s markets the Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) was up 2¢, to average 330.25¢/kg cwt. Trade and medium steers both lost 2¢, averaging 193¢ and 171¢/kg, respectively. Feeder steers were 1¢ cheaper on 186¢, while heavy steers increased 2¢, to average 184¢/kg. Medium cows lost 1¢, to average 128¢/kg.
