Ministry Strengthens Dairy Policy
COLOMBIA – The Ministry of Agriculture has strengthened measures to support dairy farmers.

Plans for sector development include ‘technical assistance’ programmes, regional producer/processor initiatives and other funding schemes aimed at supplying milk to deprived citizens.
Universities and the Ministry of Agriculture will be involved in a 20 billion pesos package aimed at maximising the capabilities of the country’s stockmen.
Not all farms will be included in knowledge sharing initiative, which will centre on four dairying strongholds: Ubaté Chiquinquirá, Antioquia and Nariño.
Furthermore, rural development committees have recommended dairy zones across the country.
These regional milk buying areas will act as a link-forming device between producers and processors.
The government has also announced that a further 23 billion pesos is going into bulk milk buying.
The milk will be used to revive the liquid market with all milk distributed among young parents and impoverished children.
National surveys will be used to target the 44 Colombian municipalities most at risk of malnutrition.
