The announcement came from the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) and follows forty years of disease monitoring and movement restrictions across the country.

Evaluated and approved by the OIE, the news comes as great news for farmers big and small, said Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation, Milton Von Hesse.

“FMD free means we are now determined to boost national livestock exports, this will open up a potential market for small Peruvian producers,” he commented.

Peruvian Representative for the United Nations Organisation for Food and Agriculture, John Preissing, drew attention to the great achievement of the government.

Great impacts are in store for food security and animal health, added Mr Preissing.
