Week Starts Well Across All States
AUSTRALIA - Quality, number and prices are up for much of the country's cattle with throughput at Scone supply yard up 42 per cent and the Cattle Indicator up 7.5 cents.In eastern states, fed cattle have been bought well and well-bred bullocks have been fetching good value, according to market analysts at Meat and Livestock Australia.
Consignments increase across all states
Total national cattle throughput this week lifted 61 per cent week-on-week, as most markets were back in operation after last week’s public holiday, write MLA experts.
Cattle supply in Queensland increased 15 per cent , with another large yarding over 10,000 head at Roma store, while Warwick numbers improved 12 per cent .
Consignments across NSW were significantly higher, with Scone yarding 42 per cent more cattle, while numbers at Inverell more than doubled. The shorter trading week saw throughput in Victoria lift 59 per cent , with Pakenham numbers returning to normal levels, while Shepparton increased 38 per cent . Numbers at WA’s Muchea market improved 32 per cent , while Tasmania’s Killafaddy lifted 28 per cent .
Good supplementary fed cattle
There were some improvements in overall quality across some cattle lines, with general buyer attendance operating in a dearer market. Supplementary fed yearlings were well-represented across the eastern states, while Pakenham saw limited well-bred bullocks attracting higher prices. Vealers lacked some finish compared to last week at Shepparton, while restocker and feeder attendance was reportedly stronger at several markets.
Prices improve
At the close of Tuesday’s markets the Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) improved 7.5¢ from last week, to average 316.25¢/kg cwt. Trade steers were 7¢ dearer on 192¢, while medium steers dropped 7¢, averaging 157¢/kg. Feeder steers were up 1¢ on 171¢, while heavy steers averaged 174¢, up 3¢/kg. Medium cows were 1¢ dearer on 109¢/kg.
