FMD Outbreak in China Affects Pigs and Cattle
CHINA - The Chinese veterinary authorities have reported an outbreak of foot and mouth disease in Yunnan, affecting cattle and swine.The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received an immediate notification on Sunday, 9 June, wherein it was reported that a total of 1213 cattle were found susceptible, out of which 283 cases were reported. All 1213 animals were destroyed.
According to the report, 554 pigs showed signs of susceptibility to the FMD virus (serotype A). However, no pigs were found affected by the virus. All susceptible animals were destroyed.
The source of the outbreak remains inconclusive.
