The decision came after the general assembly of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) which has reviewed the BSE status of several countries.

Hard work from laboratories and cattle farmers is to thank for the announcement, said General Federation of Italian Farmers President, Mario Guidi.

“The decision of the OIE confirms the work done by the breeders and the efficiency of national health checks. A big thanks goes to the Veterinary Services and local laboratories and Zoo-prophylactic institutes.”

Mr Guidi added, “This is proof that BSE does not affect our cattle industry, products or farms.”

Consumer confidence and trade relationships are hoped to improve the economic vitality of Italian products, he concluded.
